The Greatest

Perhaps the greatest player to ever play the game. Jordan epitomized what it meant to play with tenacity, heart, grit, and passion. If the guy didn’t retire so many times, we may be talking 8 or 10 rings for the guy.

This piece harkens back to my days of paper art. Just like the other pieces in my respect series, I have mad respect for this guy. He poured so much time into the game. That’s why rappers, comedians, other sports players reference honing their craft like Jordan or putting themselves up there like Jordan. They consider him the bar.

I don’t know what that looks like in the design world but I definitely have a list of people I respect in the field.

It’s All About Who You Know

This is a phrase I heard in my major constantly. A major I consider the best and it’s not graphic design.

My major was Sport and Entertainment Management and to keep it short, this major is in fact one of the best out there. There is so much wealth of knowledge that spans across various mediums in this major and…well alright, lets get back to the post.

So it’s all about who you know right? In almost everything this remains true.

As a designer this reigns true as well. If you are starting out and you don’t have any clients then 9 times out of 10 how you get clients will be through people you know. Or that’s the usual method.

Note: Churches always need designers.

But if I can add to this classic statement a followup statement…

It’s all about who you know…so get to know more people.

If you are starting out and you haven’t put yourself out there yet, then let me suggest a few ways to do so. Continue Reading…

10 Lessons Learned From Chick-Fil-A: Part 1

I’ve been working at Chick Fil A since September and my mentor recently asked me to consider helping with transition at the BCM in Columbia, a place I’ve called home for 4 solid years. It was only natural to really sit down and consider it and ultimately make the move  to do it.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t say how much Chick Fil A meant to me personally. It literally got me back to Columbia, the city I love. It also helped teach me more about people and life in general.

There are so many lessons that I feel designers can learn from Chick Fil A. So much so that I want to give you 10 lessons we can learn from these guys. This is part 1 or a 2 part blog series that’s a part of the overall, What Designers Can Learn From Blog Series. Continue Reading…
